Samsung Galaxy Tablet
During a Humanities session we were introduced to Google Maps on the Samsung Galaxy. Google Maps gives a 'bird's eye view' of the world. It could be useful when teaching geography, children could use it to create maps and look for landmarks.
Samsung Galaxy's can also be used within the classroom for children to play interactive games. It may take a while for children to become confident with using tablets such as the Galaxy or the Ipad sensibly and for the intended purpose, but after a few lessons the use of the devices will become much more efficient and purposeful.

The Ipad
Ipads are handheld devices that are easy to use, portable and have many different functions. Ipads can be used for research, as cameras, to record sound, to create films, to create word documents and much more. Here are some of the main uses that I have uses Ipads for throughout my teaching practice so far:
King of Maths: Timed maths game for children to practice mental maths.
Dropbox: This app allows shared files to be viewed by all children .quickly and easily.
ABC Phonics: This is great for KS1 as it is an interactive approach to Phonics. This includes interactive flash cards and other phonics related games to complete as a class or individually
Times Table Quiz: Making Times Table tests seem more appealing!
While observing a KS1 Science lesson at a Primary School in Central Manchester I witnessed a new app called 'Splashtop 2' being put to use. The app connected the iPad to the interactive whiteboard. This meant that the teacher could control the interactive whiteboard from anywhere in the room for the whole class to see. It also meant that the children could be given the iPad to control what's happening on the whiteboard as well. This moves the lesson along effectively but it also allows the children to try and get to grips with essential ICT practice. 'Splashtop 2' is something that I would like to try in my classroom as it allows the children to actively become engaged with new technology.
